Salt Lake 2002 Cast Member Application
for Opening & Closing ceremonies

The Peak Systems team worked with the Salt Lake Organizing Committee to create the web interface and relational database for the Ceremonies application program. Visitors to the SLOC website could register to be considered as a cast member for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Scope

The project consisted of the creation of a web front end that would allow users to register to be cast members for ceremonies. Users could register as groups, adult individuals, or child individuals—each application was tailored to the respective needs of the applicant. An Oracle database saved all the information and allowed SLOC staff to download specific applications or generalized reports.

Results

Over 2,000 applications were completed, and the cast members for all Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies—as well as performances at the Olympic venues—were chosen through the tool. The Opening Ceremonies for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games boasted the highest viewership worldwide of any Winter Games in history.
